I'm a Brunswick local and I enjoy working with people in MERRI-BEK to make it more liveable, more rideable and more walkable.
I get excited when people share their concerns for our city, wanting to make it a more sustainable place, where we use more renewable energy, use less stuff and recycle more across the whole of Merri-bek.
Mark is a Brunswick local, teaching in the local community and volunteering with local sustainability groups. Committed to social inclusion and diversity, he campaigned for gay and lesbian rights during the nineties and later worked with the Victorian AIDS Council/Gay Men's Health Centre conducting outreach work.
Mark is involved in local community building projects addressing the Climate Emergency, revegetating places like the Brunswick Station and the work of the Upfield Urban Forest. He staffs the Urban Orchard food swap table each month, next to the CERES' Organic Grocery. Mark's involvement in the community has given him first-hand experience into different issues confronting the community, including homelessness and housing, urban planning and democracy, fair pay for low-paid workers in the textile and clothing industries, health issues and education.
Mark has chosen to stand with The Greens due to a shared concern for the environment and social justice. He is a former Board member at CERES Environment Park and a founding member of Climate Action Moreland. Mark is passionate about greening our community streets, advancing Merri-bek's social housing strategy to provide affordable housing in the city and creating new pathways for investments in these projects.
In his first term on Council Mark has been involved in various Council committees including Arts and Culture, Housing Advisory Committee, Human Rights, Audit and Risk and the Reconciliation working group.

Vivo en Brunswick y me gusta trabajar con los habitantes de Merri-bek para hacer de ella una ciudad más habitable, más transitable y más caminable.
Me entusiasma cuando las personas comunican sus preocupaciones acerca de nuestra ciudad porque quieren que sea un lugar más sustentable en el que utilicemos más energía renovable, consumamos menos cosas y reciclemos más en todo el territorio de Merri-bek.
Mark vive en Brunswick, da clases en la comunidad local y es voluntario en grupos de sustentabilidad locales. Como parte de su compromiso con la diversidad y la inclusión social, participó en actividades de campaña a favor de los derechos de gays y lesbianas durante los años 90, y posteriormente trabajó con el Consejo contra el SIDA/Centro de Salud de Hombres Gays de Victoria, realizando actividades de extensión comunitaria.
Mark participa en proyectos de construcción comunitaria locales que abordan la Emergencia Climática, revegetando lugares como la Estación Brunswick y contribuyendo con el trabajo en el Bosque Urbano de Upfield. Atiende todos los meses en la mesa de trueque de alimentos de Huerta Urbana, junto a la Tienda Orgánica de CERES. La participación de Mark en la comunidad le ha dado experiencia de primera mano sobre distintos problemas que la aquejan, que incluyen los problemas de vivienda y de los sin techo, la democracia y la planificación urbanas, el pago justo para los trabajadores con sueldos bajos en la industria de textiles e indumentaria, y los problemas de salud y educación.
Mark ha decidido alinearse con el partido The Greens debido a una preocupación compartida por el medio ambiente y la justicia social. Mark es ex miembro del comité del Parque Medioambiental CERES y miembro fundador de Acción Climática Moreland (Climate Action Moreland). Lo apasiona lo relativo a reverdecer las calles de nuestra comunidad, avanzar con una estrategia de vivienda social para Merri-bek que provea viviendas accesibles en la ciudad, y crear nuevos caminos para la inversión en estos proyectos.
Durante su primer mandato como concejal, Mark participó en distintos comités del Concejo, entre los que se incluyen el de Artes y Cultura, el Comité de Asesoramiento sobre Vivienda, el de Derechos Humanos, el de Auditoría y Riesgo y el grupo de trabajo sobre la Reconciliación.
