Mayo By-Election: Saturday September 6th 2008

Send Canberra a message:  Vote 1 Lynton Vonow

Lynton works locally as a science educator and has lived in Mayo for the last 12 years with his wife and two children. Lynton will be your strong local voice in Canberra.

Lynton has been active in local environmental organisations, such as the Friends of Lobethal Bushland Park bushcare group, Birdwood High School's Sustainability Committee, and is a former chair of the Upper River Torrens Landcare Group. His other achievements include creating an endangered animal sanctuary and establishing a model Landcare style repaired watercourse.

Lynton Vonow's Christian upbringing has given him a strong social and environmental conscience.  He is an ethical and responsible man of integrity and common sense, ready to represent Mayo.

“From growing up on a farm to chairing my local Landcare group, I know that the old parties have left us in a mess. Help me send Canberra a message by voting 1 The Greens on September 6th.”

Lynton Vonow - Your local Greens candidate for Mayo.

If elected Lynton would:

  • Give the Murray a Drink before Christmas. The last member for Mayo watched the Murray dry-up for 24 years, then shot through when his team lost the election. Kevin Rudd’s government won’t release any new flows until 2013 at the earliest. Only The Greens have been consistently pushing for urgent, environmental flows to the river.
  • Combat Climate Change Climate change is happening now. The scientists tell us we must cut pollution quickly but our greenhouse gas emissions are increasing. We must make the world safe for our children and our grandchildren by moving quickly to renewable energy and creating local ‘green collar’ jobs in Mayo in solar, wind and tidal power, as well as in energy saving technologies.
  • Increase the Pension Pensioners have done it hard over the last 12 years, with payments falling
behind the cost of living. If there’s money for tax-cuts for the wealthy, there’s money to increase the pension by $60/fortnight immediately.
