Congratulations to all Greens campaigners and supporters.
Counting will continue, it may be days before we know which party will form government, and whose support they require to form it.
We do however know that the Australian Greens have recorded a record result in both the Senate and House of Representatives.
Congratulations to Adam Bandt in the seat of Melbourne. The Greens also came very close in a number of other seats in the lower house, establishing a fantastic platform to build on Adam's success.
The Greens received the largest House of Representatives swing of any party in the election, despite the rhetoric that voters were abandoning Labor for the coalition.
In the senate we have seen a record vote for Lin Hatfield-Dodds in the ACT, and Lin came incredibly close to snatching the seat, despite the vote necessary to do so in the territories being much higher.
Christine Milne has recorded a massive vote in Tasmania, Richard DiNatale has recorded a "quota" in Victoria, and Rachel Siewert has gone very close to doing so in Western Australia. We have successfully elected Larissa Waters in Queensland and Penny Wright in South Australia, and look very likely to elect Lee Rhiannon in New South Wales.
At this stage it is expected that the Greens will have ten members in the Federal Parliament.
The new senators will take their offices in July 2011, meanwhile Adam Bandt has already begun preparations as the Member for Melbourne.
To everyone who worked on the campaign, we thank you for your efforts. It has been an extraordinary election for the Greens, and it could not have been done without the work of our candidates across the country, our thousands of campaign staff and volunteers, and the nearly 1.3 million people that voted Green!
