Greens endorse Salore Craig as candidate for Aston

The Greens have announced local resident Salore Craig as their candidate for the federal seat of Aston

Ms Craig has lived in the eastern suburbs of Melbourne for over 30 years and is now a home owner with her husband in the area.

"I felt it was time to speak out for the residents of Aston,” said Ms Craig. “People have been campaigning for years for improved public transport, yet all the federal money in this area goes into roads.

The Greens would lobby for federal funding for projects like the Rowville Train line and the extension of the 75 tram to Knox City.

With a Bachelor’s Degree in politics and sociology from Latrobe University, Salore is currently employed in the social services sector and works to assist refugees and other migrants find employment and integrate into Australian society.

Working in this field has given Salore a good understanding of the challenges refugees face at all levels and the reasons why Australia should show greater compassion for those who are forced to flee their homeland.

"I see so many people desperate to make a go of things and The Greens are the only party with a sensible policy on Asylum Seekers. It is a shame that these people are being used by the other parties as political footballs."

A dedicated passion for environmental conservation and social justice has motivated Salore to run for parliament again in 2010.

She has previously run strong campaigns in both State and Federal elections.

Salore has always been guided by her strong ethical philosophies and this campaign will be no different.
