"Labor must turn on the Greens and destroy them." Tony Maher, 7 July.

Prominent members of the ALP have launched an all-out attack on the 1.6 million Australians like you who vote Green.

"Extremists who threaten democracy" and "not unlike One Nation". That's how senior Labor Party figures have described us this week.

Right now, the ALP is deciding whether to preference Tony Abbott ahead of the Greens in next year's federal election. Doing this could hand him control of the Senate, or leave it in the hands of ultra-conservative parties like Family First and the DLP. That's how far this attack goes.

With our shared values under fire in every newspaper, there is something you can do to stand up for everything we've achieved together.

Can you chip in $25, $40 or $100 today for our fighting fund?

It’s no coincidence that Labor’s aggressive tactics have ramped up in the crucial last days of the by-election campaign for the state seat of Melbourne.

Greens candidate Dr Cathy Oke was on track to win the seat next week, but the attacks have come thick and fast on her as part of the national ALP campaign. We want to publish an ad in Melbourne’s Age newspaper so we can share our positive vision with voters before election day – and that’s just the start.

If you donate now, we can show how Greens respond to ALP tactics - by continuing to articulate our positive and progressive policies for all to see.

We know that when we band together, we can bring about real change - from cutting the pollution that drives global warming, to massive investment in dental health.

We need to counter these attacks from the ALP, so that we can get back to the vital work of making Australia a better country for everyone.

Thank you for your continued support.

Yours sincerely,

Christine Milne

P.S. We urgently need to counter these attacks, starting by helping the Greens win the crucial battle for the state seat of Melbourne in just 9 days. Please donate today.
