Mr. Joel Fitzgibbon has announced the allocation of $2 million Dollars of funding to plan an overpass for the rail crossing at Scone.
The residents of Scone have been heavily campaigning for an answer to their traffic woes for some time now. Our present Government has a history of ignoring the concerns of residents until election time and promise the world. As we have seen on several issues over their term in office, promises are made and quickly forgotten once the election is over.
Both tiers of Government have been receiving major funding from the Coal mining Industry via royalties and taxes for years, but very little of these funds actually go towards rectifying the serious problems for people in the Hunter caused by coal mining.
Can we rely upon either this present Government or the performance of the previous Government to fulfil their promises? I sincerely hope that the people of the Hunter will remember the last ten years and see through these vague promises and vote for change by voting Green.
The Hunter deserves better than the empty promises of Governments that make a lot of promises that they fail to keep. I fully support the building of this crossing, but we need it now and all plans will need to be implemented as a matter of urgency.
Don’t forget, the $2 million is for a plan only and plans have a history of being shelved over recent years.
