GET THE FACTS!
More than a million Australians voted Green in 2007 and the polls show that number is growing every day. So far, the Greens primary vote is holding steady, but one thing is certain: every election the old parties and other lobby groups use dirty tactics to smear the Greens.
These dirty tactics aren’t just an attack on the Greens – they are an attack on every Greens supporter across Australia.
Here’s a few examples of the dirty tactics and smears we have to deal with:
-
During the Tasmanian election in March this year, Labor organised ‘robo-calls’ to households just before the election which incorrectly claimed the Greens wanted to legalise drugs.
-
This election, the Climate Sceptics (backed by Andrew Bolt*) are trying to raise funds to play ads which claim ‘green laws’ bankrupt families and cause suicides.
Enough is enough.
Let's prove that dirty tactics like lies and smear campaigns won't work this election.
This page is designed to give you the power to fight back against the smears armed with the FACTS. We will update this page when we hear about new smears from our supporters -- you are our eyes and ears on the ground.
If you see a TV ad, a leaflet, poster, letter-to-the-editor etc., that you think is fiction, please contact your state Greens office.
MYTH: The Greens only have policies on environmental issues
MYTH: If you vote Green, you 'risk' Tony Abbott
MYTH: The Greens want to destroy the economy.
MYTH: The Greens want to legalise all drugs
MYTH: A vote for The Greens is just a vote for Labor
MYTH: There's a secret deal between the Greens and Labor
MYTH: The Greens are "anti-Christian"
MYTH: The Greens want to ban fishing
MYTH: The Greens want to abolish independent schools
MYTH: A Green vote is a wasted vote.
MYTH: The Greens in the Senate haven't achieved anything
MYTH: The Greens just block things, they don't offer anything constructive.
and help us fight the fiction!
