LOCAL GOVERNMENT SUPPORT WORKER
The Greens NSW is seeking to appoint a Local Government Support Worker to assist Greens NSW Councillors to be even more effective as elected representatives.
We are looking for a competent and enthusiastic individual with knowledge of and commitment to the policies and principles of The Greens. Ideally, you will be highly organised, have advanced written and spoken communication skills, and detailed knowledge of NSW local government issues.

A. THE POSITION AND SELECTION CRITERIA
The Greens NSW is seeking to appoint a highly motivated individual with boundless energy and initiative as Local Government Support Worker to assist Greens NSW Councillors to be even more effective as elected representatives.
Essential requirements include:
· a commitment to Greens policies and principles;
· respect for the grassroots democratic organisational structures of The Greens;
· demonstrated knowledge of local government issues, including planning issues;
· strong organisational skills, including managing competing demands and multiple projects;
· problem solving and negotiations; and
· excellent written and spoken communication skills.
Desirable requirements include:
· direct experience in local government; and
· experience in community campaigning.

B. DATES, LOCATION AND PAY
The position has been funded for a period of two years. The position can be based in The Greens NSW office in Erskineville, although other locations can be negotiated.
The work is part-time for 21 hours per week. The rate of pay is $30 an hour plus 9% superannuation.

D. BRIEF JOB DESCRIPTION
The Greens NSW Local Government Support Worker will:
· coordinate local government campaigns and template motions;
· organise councillor mentoring, training and networking forums and produce materials for these;
· provide research support and day to day advice to councillors;
· maintain councillor email and contact lists; and
· assist councillors to maintain good relationships with their groups.
