The key responsibility of this position is to raise the profile of
Based in Hobart, duties include: preparing material for local media releases, press conferences and speeches; developing supportive relations with relevant journalists and Tasmanian media monitoring; organising local press conferences; assisting the Communications and Campaigns officers in developing local campaign stories; maintaining accurate Tasmanian media lists; and preparing a newsletter including co-ordination of printing and distribution.
Selection criteria:
- Experience in media relations, either as a journalist, media advisor, or public relations specialist;
- Highly developed written, oral and interpersonal communication skills;
- Well developed office IT skills including web based media;
- Ability to work as part of a team, under time constraints and strict deadlines, with a minimum of supervision;
- Ability to handle sensitive issues discreetly;
- Experience in graphic design, video production, audio production, website production, and/or website design is highly regarded;
- Understanding of Australian politics and knowledge of Australian Greens policies.
This is a 0.6 FTE position with a commencing salary of $46,320 pro rata, as well as generous employer-funded superannuation. Conditions of employment are governed by the Commonwealth Members of Parliament Staff Collective Agreement 2006-2009. A probationary period of 3 months will apply.
