The Greens support the Government's intention to reform Australia's health system but want to ensure real health outcomes for the community.
"There are key areas that need further reform such as mental health, ageing and dental health, and we want to make sure these are included, " said Senator Rachel Siewert, the Greens health spokesperson.
"Australians need a Commonwealth dental scheme and, as Australian of the Year, Patrick McGorry says there cannot be health reform without mental health reform. The Greens have put detailed initiatives in these areas and we look forward to discussing them with the Government.
"The Greens will be looking closely at the legislation when it comes into the Senate with the aim of working with the Government to provide the best possible outcomes for the community.
"We supported the private health insurance legislation, and we certainly will not be blocking anything for the sake of it like the Opposition.
"Our health system should focus on keeping people well and out of hospital, but some health experts have expressed concern that the new system will focus more people into our hospital system.
"The Australian Greens will take up the Government's offer of a briefing on the health package in the coming weeks," Senator Siewert said.
