About
Carmel McCallum is delighted to again stand for the Greens in the NSW electorate of Macquarie.
"I'll be campaigning for stronger action on climate change that directly threatens our precious local environment. The Greens' climate change policy is based on science, not developed as a result of lobbying by the big carbon polluters.”
Carmel works locally as a pharmicist, giving her a direct understanding of the pressures on the health system
“Pharmacists are at the front-line of preventative health which has been sorely neglected in the current shake up of the health system. I see every day people who are falling through the cracks, particularly with a lack of resources for mental and dental health,” said Ms McCallum.
She has lived in the Blue Mountains for many years and is very active in the Parents and Citizens organisation at a State level.
Policies
The Greens in Macquarie are campaigning for:
- Real action on climate change, not schemes which pay polluters to continue polluting. The Greens have proposed an interim carbon tax to break the deadlock on emissions trading.
- Improved access to regional healthcare for all, including mental and dental health
- Action on affordable housing. The Greens will develop national planning guidelines for new housing developments with a social mix of public and private housing.
- The protection of prime agricultural farmland to protect our food security
- Refugees to be treated with compassion and dignity
- Restored funding to public schools to ensure that every child receives a high quality education.
