About
Dawn Jecks lives in Safety Bay with her husband and 12 year-old son. She works as a vocational trainer in the laboratory operations industry within the resources sector.
A dedicated community campaigner, Dawn is currently leading the “Hands Off Point Peron” campaign to save Point Peron from a Liberal plan to sell off 86 hectares of public land to build an inland marina with canal housing and high rise development in the Regional Park. Dawn has also been a vocal advocate for better health services and more affordable housing.
Dawn believes the Greens’ policies strike the right balance between the demands of industry and the environment. “The Greens are not about stopping development, they are about doing it in smarter ways – that protect our natural resources and create green jobs and prosperity,” says Dawn.

Policies
A Green Vision for Brand
- Fund a universal public dental health care scheme – Denticare. Simple untreated dental problems lead to many more patients with chronic diseases in our hospitals. This scheme has been fully costed and would be rolled-out gradually over five years.
- Federal funding for better public transport services including a light rail network that is linked to the Perth – Mandurah train line providing greatly improved services along our high frequency routes, while freeing up buses to provide additional services within our suburbs.
- Encourage family friendly working conditions and ensure better access to child care services; More Australians are finding it difficult to balance their work and family lives as we work some of the longest hours in the developed world. A decent paid parental leave system is also long overdue.
- Better access to & support for mental health care through increased funding; Mental illness is a major health issue in our community and must be a fundamental component of national health reform.
- Aged care for the future; The Greens believe that we should put more resources into maintaining the health, mobility and independence of our elders, with more choice, greater resources for community care and more support for family carers.
- Affordable quality education for all; our schools are the foundation of our community and a strong, properly resourced education system is essential for a healthy society.
- Urgent action on climate change including establishing an interim price on carbon to support renewable energy development. Good for the climate and good for jobs because new clean energy industries will generate a jobs bonanza. Introduce a national energy efficiency target; end native forest logging and protect natural carbon sinks
- Keep Point Peron a public nature reserve as was always intended for the area, not a private inland marina and high rise development
