Lyons

About

Karen Cassidy has lived much of her life in rural areas and fostered a strong interest in developing and maintaining the essential services that keep rural communities strong and healthy.

A mother of three, Karen has a background in rural health and politics, and currently owns and operates her own small business.

Having moved to Tasmania 11 years ago, Karen became an integral member of the Lyons community and continues to work to promote improved health services and educational outcomes for rural areas.

Policies

Lyons, as a highly decentralised electorate, pulls a stronger demand for specific rural policies and initiatives. Lyons is a network of small towns and tight communities and the services that each community can deliver, maintain and grow helps to feed the overall strength of the region and it’s unique way of life.

A proactive approach to public health and health promotion produces healthier societies.

A strengthening of funding for public hospitals and Medicare will allow the services that promote and maintain good health to continue to deliver across rural Tasmania and minimise the need to centralise essential services to metropolitan areas.

The Greens will also provide an adequate allowance for students who need to live away from home, meaning rural students are able to access equal opportunities for a good education.
