About
Law student and youth advocate Rebecca Leighton has a long-running commitment to social justice and big plans for the future.
Rebecca knows the Swan area well, having lived in Manning and South Perth.
When not studying law at Murdoch University, she dedicates much of her free time to voluntary work for the wider community. At the Freedom Centre, a support centre for gay and lesbian youth, Rebecca helps young people deal with the pressures, prejudices and marginalisation that are factors behind the higher-than-average rate of suicide among gay and lesbian youth.
Rebecca is studying law in order to defend the rights of disadvantaged people and fight for social justice. She became involved in the Greens because the major parties have turned their backs on marginalised and vulnerable people, and because she believes in the need to establish a third option rather than settling for the so-called "lesser evil".
She will be an accountable and accessible member for the people of Swan.
