Candidate for Gellibrand

About

Rodney Solin has lived and worked in the western suburbs for twenty years. He works at  Victoria University and has taught adult literacy and  return to study courses. He is now teaching English language to migrants. His involvement in social issues goes back to the 1970s. He is a committed environmentalist as well as holding a strong belief in a more just, fair and equitable society.

Rodney enjoys reading, finding time to swimming at Willi beach, cycling to and from the beach and playing tennis. He really enjoys doing yoga on the beach when the sun shines and the water glistens.

Policies

Gellibrand is considered to be safe Labor territory. That’s why Labor disregards the people who live in this electorate.

It is also the reason why voters in this electorate should vote for the Greens. This way Gellibrand voters can register their unease with the way Labor is forever trying to line up with the Liberal Party to the extent of taking their policies and rebadging them as Labor. Labor has lost its idealism. Voters need to turn to the Greens for a more just and  sustainable future.

Gellibrand is very much a part of the world, a world in which global warming is happening right now. This requires real long-term action, not short-term political posturing. The same is also true with Australia’s need for good infrastructure, for good public transport, decent schools for every child and for a more safe and peaceful world. Only the Greens have this forward looking vision as well as the commitment to stand up for the underdog, whether this is an asylum seeker trying to come to Australia, an old growth forest about to be chipped or teachers and nurses being forced to work in increasingly bureaucratised work environments.
