Will Rudd act to save solar jobs?
The Rudd Government must act decisively to save the jobs of the 200 highly skilled solar cell manufacturers that will be lost with the closure of BP Solar's plant in Sydney, the Australian Greens said today. "Prime Minister Rudd faces a defining moment today in convincing Australians that he cares about climate change and the green jobs
Rudd keeping coal on life support. Why won't he breathe life into solar?
The Greens today called on the Rudd Government to fund each major renewable energy technology by at least as much as it is funding coal, in response to the announcement of yet another $100 million allocation to the most polluting energy source.
"Where is the $100 million fund to make Australia's world leading solar researchers a global knowledge hub?" asked Australian Greens Senator Christine Milne.
"Where are the half a billion dollar funds to roll out solar thermal power stations, ocean power stations and geothermal demonstration plants? All of these are ready and able to provide vast quantities of base-load power well before a single coal power plant using geosequestration can be built.
Solar: The way of the future
“A solar hot water system on every roof, good building insulation and photo-voltaic solar panels that feed energy into the national grid”, are key policies for The Greens in the forthcoming Lyne-election according to Greens candidate Susie Russell.
Funding and 'feed-in' needed to fix renewables commercialisation stuff-up
Concessions to one technology will not fix the Budget's major stuff-up over small and delayed funding for renewable energy, Australian Greens climate change spokesperson, Senator Christine Milne, said today.
Only a radical shift in priorities, alongside a comprehensive feed-in law like that being introduced in the Senate by the Greens today, will plug the huge Budget hole.
