Peter Castaldo

Mayor for Banyule City Council - Councillor for Griffin ward

Banyule has been my home for over 30 years and it has been an honour representing the community since 2016.

I want families and people of all ages to love their local area and their community the moment they step outside their front door. The street, the parks, the playgrounds and sporting clubs, the shops down the road and the restaurants around the corner.  Now more than ever we need to support and include everyone in our unique and diverse community.  These are all reasons why I care about local government and why I am running again for re-election.

In my first term we have made much progress but work still needs to be done.  We have delivered on major infrastructure including the Ivanhoe Library project, implemented mandatory heights in Ivanhoe, and placed the council in a good financial position to assist the community through the current COVID environment.

Now we need to step up again and provide stronger protections in planning. Improve our streetscapes with better tree protection, tree plantings and recreational offering. Increase waste and recycling services. Accelerate action on climate change while supporting the community to take steps in the transition.

I have not and never will encourage developers to fund my campaign. I will always act in the community's interest without compromise. I will always work hard and make myself available to the community and do my best to help people through the complexities of the planning process to have their voices heard.

Many actions are important to build a better Banyule and Griffin Ward, right now and into the future.  Please help, participate and play a role in supporting me in delivering a better environment and economic prosperity in Banyule.
