Candidate for Midland
Matthew Biggs is The Greens (WA) Candidate for Midland in the 2017 WA election.
Matthew Biggs is a proud long term resident of the Midland/Guildford area with extensive family history all the way up to Darlington.
From attending the local schools, theatre companies and sporting groups, to working several jobs in Midland, he has gotten to know the local people as much as the landmarks and has grown up with a deep connection and appreciation for the area.
He joined the greens as a personal endeavour to fight for people who could not be heard. His mother raised him as a single parent, along with his younger brother, whilst battling numerous health problems and financial complications and all the while staying strong and compassionate. Matthew admires his mother greatly and has learnt from her strength and compassion that all people deserve a fair go in life. These first-hand experiences highlight the need for a people oriented change in government. His family has been caring for children in the foster system for some time now and during this time he has seen the effects of a government who has lost touch with its people, especially those most vulnerable. The need for rehab centres and homeless facilities in his area has become apparent with the current government working to increase the gap between the rich and poor rather than help those who need it.
Matthew recognises the need for a sustainable future and the benefits from following the path to a clean energy Australia. Protecting the land which we live on has always been close to his heart. From planting trees during school trips and with his family on his Grandfathers property in Toodyay, Matthew holds the belief that nature is an important part of our future.
Matthew looks forward to connecting with the community on issues that matter and will make a difference to our future.
