Nicole Harvey

Candidate for Balcatta

Nicole Harvey is The Greens (WA) Candidate for Balcatta in the 2017 WA election.

Nicole is proud to campaign with Alison Xamon, Greens candidate for North Metro, on a comprehensive plan for a thriving, sustainable, and connected northern suburbs region. As a medical education writer, Nicole knows that primary health care needs to be strengthened. As a volunteer literacy tutor, she knows more people need to be supported to achieve their education, training and employment needs and goals.

As a resident of the Balcatta electorate, she knows that the area is great yet could be so much more.
The Balcatta electorate needs:

• more greenery and urban forests for a cooling effect and quality spaces to walk, cycle, play and spend time with each other as a community
• to be part of the transition to a sustainable economy and energy future – Balcatta could be home to new, clean, inspiring industries
• fast and frequent public transport travelling east–west more easily.

Nicole believes it's time for a creative, courageous and clever government that is truly community-centred to achieve more with WA's natural resources and wonderful people. Main Street should be a buzzing strip with more great places to shop, eat and pause to watch the world go by. It needs to be a hub of affordable housing surrounded by more art, culture and beauty. And the people need to feel safe, part of a community doing all we can to prevent domestic violence and support those escaping it.

A passion for conservation and ecological sustainability led Nicole to complete a science degree at UWA majoring in zoology and microbiology. After a zoology honours year, she was a virology research assistant. Then, to help people make more informed decisions, she did a communication graduate diploma at Curtin University. It took a move to Melbourne for her interests in science and writing to combine together, becoming her medical writing career of over a decade. Melbourne also showed Nicole glimpses of how thoughtful urban design brings people together and boosts small businesses.

Nicole and the Balcatta campaign will stand up with The Greens for world class services in WA and high integrity politics.
