Candidate for East Metropolitan
Sarah Nielsen-Harvey is The Greens (WA) 2nd Upper House Candidate for the East Metropolitan region in the 2017 WA election.
Growing up in the Central Wheatbelt town of Merredin, I witnessed first hand the effects of climate change – we experienced incredibly tough droughts and other dry-spells. Yet climate change was, and still isn’t, being taken seriously by successive governments.
I grew up in a single parent family, while being surrounded by a strong support network of family and friends, who are mostly teachers and nurses. As such, the importance of public services was always clear – and helping people is just what we did. Our teachers and nurses are the people who make a difference to lives and peoples futures every single day, and that always inspired me. Our public services are continually under attack from privatisation and funding cuts, and it’s this that drives me to stand for The Greens.
The Barnett Government has wasted our boom time, and the gap between our communities most disadvantaged and the rich has grown. Our public health and education system is crying out for funding, and our criminal justice system is in crisis.
I am proud to be standing for East Metro and providing a strong voice for people, not big business who can afford to buy political influence. Like never before the vision we have, the values we hold, and the actions we take as a movement are needed in the current political climate. We are the genuine alternative.
