About our plan
As we face the challenges of climate change, and an outdated planning system that has led to the destruction of more than 75% of Perth’s bushland, we must protect what’s left, restore what we can and change the way we design our city.
The Greens’ Perth Urban Forest Plan will introduce a new network of protected regionally significant natural habitats linked together with urban forest corridors that will be within walking distance to all of Perth’s residents, increasing our contact with nature and culture, and protecting our places that are too precious to lose.
Our Urban Forest Plan provides dedicated funding and a clear strategy to green our city. This plan will help cool our suburbs in a warming climate, provide recreational spaces for people to enjoy, encourage healthy lifestyles and protect our local biodiversity.
Built on the 40,000 year history of Noongar occupation and cultivation, and integrating the latest mapping work in urban biodiversity, canopy cover and climate change resilience, this initiative will transform Perth into a city that honours its place as one of the world’s biodiversity hotspots and home to the oldest living culture on the planet.
