Malcolm: Protect anti-discrimination laws

The government's attack on 18C and the Racial Discrimination Act has been defeated in the Senate. Now Mr Turnbull needs to promise that there will be no more threats to these protections.

The government’s aggressive push to change Section 18C of the Racial Discrimination Act – a crucial safeguard against racism and hate speech – was defeated after a groundswell of community support. This was another attack on multicultural Australia and another capitulation by Malcolm Turnbull to his rabid right wing, One Nation and a narrow section of the media.

You only need to look at the politicians pushing to water down Section 18C – Peter Dutton, Pauline Hanson, George Brandis – to realise this threat is not over. Call on Malcolm Turnbull to promise that there will be no more attacks against the Racial Discrimination Act.
