For people with disability, institutional and residential care can be dark and terrifying when they should be guaranteed safety and the highest quality of care. They should be receiving care, not abuse.
That is why the Greens initiated and chaired a senate inquiry into abuse, violence and neglect of people with disability in institutional and residential settings. As that inquiry progressed, it became clear that more investigation was needed. The evidence given was chilling and heartbreaking and it should have prompted national outrage and action.
It is time to act on the recommendations of the senate inquiry to fix the system, we need a Royal Commission into abuse, violence and neglect of people with disability in institutional and residential settings.
The Greens want clear, immediate action on this issue. Will you help us call on Prime Minister Turnbull to stop this abuse and violence once and for all?
