I’m Greg Watkinson and I’m running for the Greens because humanity is in crisis, but together we can fix it. I want to tackle the climate and cost of living crises. I want to push for innovative and serious solutions to these issues and a plan for energy transition that prioritises workers, the environment and our community.
I’m a father of three kids and live with my wife in Charlestown. I moved to Australia in 2015; drought, exposure to first nations issues and living in the shadow of the world’s biggest coal port had a profound effect on me. Issues which seemed nebulous suddenly sat right on my doorstep. My political awakening coincided with COVID-19 which did, and still does, put pressure onto our strained system in ways that can’t be ignored.
The rising inequity between normal people and socio-political elites is a huge problem. People live in poverty whist CEOs and corporations increase their wealth at an obscene rate.
The Greens commitment to grass roots democracy, our refusal to accept corporate donations or influence, our respect and sincerity towards first nations and other marginalised groups means we are the party who can deliver the change we need. The Greens are the only party taking seriously the dangers facing our society and are, therefore, the only party who stand to sort it out.
