Hi, I’m Kym Chapple and I’m asking for your support. I’m a lawyer, activist, mum of two, and Maroubra local. As a local councillor, I’m proud to have worked for environmental programs like FOGO in schools and improved solar rebates, tackling the impact of Airbnb on housing affordability, and seen council take meaningful steps on First Nations economic empowerment. I have worked hand in hand with the community, and I appreciate the trust you have placed in me.
Maroubra deserves a strong voice in NSW Parliament that can stand up to both major parties, and I’m here to deliver.
We need to stop privatisation and start bringing essential public services like our buses back into public hands. We need to stop corporations writing the rules whether it’s the wealthy cruise industry trying to destroy Yarra Bay, greedy Meriton at Little Bay or billionaires buying new coal and gas approvals despite all the best climate science.
I’ve seen rentals in our area with 100 people waiting to inspect them. That’s cooked! The Greens have a plan for housing affordability because we get it, housing is a human right. Our plan includes a freeze on rents, banning unfair evictions, and building thousands of new affordable homes.
It’s tough out there already and whether you have a mortgage or are renting it’s getting tougher. We need people in Parliament who will put the community before corporate donors. We need bold policies on the table like power bill freezes, increases to public sector wages, and free public transport.
Our public schools need proper funding so all kids have access to a quality education. I’ve seen how hard teachers in my daughter’s school work and they need a raise and a hell of a lot more resources to do the job.
There’s no time to lose on the climate crisis after decades of denial and delay. I’m proud to be part of a party that knows we must take serious action by banning new coal and gas projects - and invest in the renewable energy future. There are great new jobs in these industries if we commit to building them.
