Kat McNamara, the recently elected Greens Member for Nightcliff, is currently recruiting for an Electorate Officer to work with the electorate office team in the community, the electorate office and parliament.
ABOUT KAT McNAMARA & OUR TEAM
Kat is the first Greens representative in the Northern Territory parliament. Kat is a strong advocate for integrity, climate action and social justice in the NT Parliament. The team at the Nightcliff Electorate Office are focussed on working closely with the community and supporting constituents, programs and clubs in the Nightcliff Electorate. Kat is a passionate advocate for their community and is keen to ensure that the electorate office is a welcoming space for any constituent to visit.
ABOUT THE ROLE
The Electorate Officer provides support to the Member of Parliament in their role serving the electorate and representing the electorate in parliament. The Electorate Officer reports to the Member of Parliament. The Electorate Officer may be
responsible for the supervision of an Assistant Electorate Officer/s depending on the organisation of work within the electorate office.
KEY WORK AREAS
- Constituent and community liaison - responding to individuals and groups who request the MLA’s help or advocacy, assisting them to solve problems and identify services that might suit their needs. Assisting with responses to emails and letters that the Member receives.
- Local issues engagement - Ensuring the Member is informed of developments within the electorate. Development of campaigns, events, parliamentary tactics and other actions that respond to community needs.
- Office systems - Assisting the Member with the day to day operations and management of the electorate office, particularly in the absence of the member.
- Ensuring a well-functioning, warm and welcoming environment for staff, volunteers, and visitors. Managing the Member’s calendar.
- Media and communications support - Assisting the Member with strategic communications and messaging support and media liaison.
- Parliamentary support - Assisting the member with management of parliamentary business, including support with research, speechwriting, and stakeholder liaison.
- Office resource management - Managing the Member’s office entitlements and electorate budget.

SELECTION CRITERIA
Essential Criteria (please address all of these criteria in your application)
- Demonstrated commitment to the core principles of progressive politics and an interest in, and understanding of, the Northern Territory political context.
- Excellent oral communication and interpersonal skills including the ability to hear from and liaise with individuals, community groups, government and non-government organisations, and the media.
- Excellent writing, research and analytical skills including the ability to prepare correspondence, briefing notes, submissions, speeches, newsletters, emails, media releases and review policy and legislation.
- Demonstrated sound judgement and organisational skills to work effectively under pressure and manage competing priorities and deadlines.
- Demonstrated ability to undertake responsibility for the day-to-day management of the electorate office and resources, and for supervision of staff and volunteers.
Desirable criteria (please address any of these additional criteria that you meet)
- Community organising, community development and/or outreach experience.
- Experience with digital tools and platforms, including social media, websites, CRMs/databases, and collaboration tools such as Google Workspace and Slack.

We support flexible work arrangements and job share applicants will be considered. The role is full time, but we are open to 0.8 or 0.9 FTE work arrangements.
