Hi! My name is April, and I’m excited to be your Greens candidate for Broadwater.
I’m an Asian Studies, journalism and Japanese graduate from Griffith University. I was the first person in my family to go to university, and am proud of my working-class background. While I started out my career as a content writer, I’m now retraining as a high school teacher. I’ve also spent the last seven years working in schools all over southeast Queensland (and a bit abroad) as a debating coach and adjudicator.
The best thing I ever did was joining the climate movement. I’m now a volunteer organiser helping fight for climate justice on the Gold Coast.
Working with fellow young people isn’t just rewarding, it’s an important reminder every day of how powerful young voices are. Remember the climate strikers? We’re lucky to have such incredible role models in our youngest generation.
Bushfires, coronavirus, and the housing crisis all show that business as usual is failing us.
Our public resources are handed over for next to nothing to big businesses so they can collect all of the profits. Meanwhile, everyday peoples’ wages aren’t keeping up with the soaring cost of living. That’s unacceptable.
Queensland is already being hit hard by climate change. We need elected representatives who will act now to protect the futures of everyone, not just fossil fuel billionaires.
We can build a better future together - and that means claiming back power for our communities.
I’d love to have you join our campaign. We can work together to build stronger communities, clean up politics, and make sure no one is left behind ever again.
