G'day, I'm Tom.
I'm an Economics student and the President of the Student Association at James Cook University. I grew up in Railway Estate, and I've spent most of my adult life here in Townsville. I'm a strong believer in our community spirit and know that when we work together, Townsville truly shines.
I know that North Queensland is a special place and that there's nowhere else on Earth like it. We live right next door to the greatest living natural wonder in the world, the Great Barrier Reef, and our region also hosts some of Australia's most beautiful national parks. I don't know why you'd want to live anywhere else.
I understand the apathy for politics many of us feel. We have a government that acts like Queensland stops at the Sunshine Coast and politicians that aren't working for anyone but their corporate mates. Enough is enough. We need a system that works for everyone, not just the ones lining politicians' pockets. The Greens refuse to take corporate donations because corporate money has no place in politics.
COVID-19 has shown us who our system works for and who's getting left behind. But it's also given us the chance to rebuild a Queensland that works for all of us. We can have the best healthcare in the world, and we can end corporations gouging us for essentials like electricity and housing. We can have a transition away from coal that doesn't leave anyone behind, and most of all we can have a government that genuinely cares about the North.
The Greens have a plan for Queensland that delivers all that and more, but we need Greens in government to make it happen. We can't do it alone, and we need your help to get there. Join our movement, and we'll build a future for all of us.
