Public institutions belong in public hands, and they should be funded for the public good.
TAFE SA was corporatised in 2012, and since then we have seen a slow degradation of what used to be a robust and publicly owned TAFE system. This is the consequence of years of underfunding and staff cuts, all while Governments pour money into substandard private sector providers.
The privatisation experiment has failed our students and our state. It’s time for a different approach.
A strong and healthy TAFE is essential for SA’s future. In our recovery from the pandemic we should be building back with a public TAFE system as part of our recovery pathway.
