Glenn Millar | Australian Greens

Glenn Millar

Candidate for Lyons - 5

In Lyons, its very possible to have a wealthy economy, great social wellbeing and a well protected environment, but we have to involve and respect all stakeholders to get it right.

At 62 I have a background in small business, mechanics, tourism, gardening, landcare and over 30 years of political activism.

I grew up in Glenorchy, worked and travelled extensively across Australia, single fathering 4 children along the way. I've lived in the Lyons electorate for 38 years, regularly volunteering for various local groups.

I believe my life experiences give me the good understanding of people and the environment, thats needed to represent our diverse electorate of Lyons.

We Greens have always been progressive leaders. Other politicians, particularly Liberals,  ridiculed us 25 years ago when we said that Tasmania's economic future  was with environmental protection, clean green agriculture, tourism, arts and IT.  This is now the backbone of Tasmania's economy, and its future. But if the Greens policies of that time were considered, we would now be much better off environmentally, economically and particularly socially.

Lyons, with Tasmania's tallest mountains, wild rivers, clean agriculture/forestry, world class beaches and us, needs the best environmental protection to underpin our current/future economy and wellbeing.

We don't need to keep tearing down, digging up and poisoning the environment for economic success.

In Lyons, its very possible to have a wealthy economy, great social wellbeing and a well protected environment, but we have to involve and respect all stakeholders to get it right.
