Anne Layton-Bennett

Candidate for Bass

I moved to Tasmania with my partner in 1988. We worked in the cut flower industry for over 20 years as co-owners of a retail florist business, and a wholesale flower farm supplying the trade. I am a qualified Library Technician and have worked in both public and school libraries - more recently combining this with work as a freelance journalist.

I was an active opponent of failed timber company Gunns Ltd’s proposed Tamar Valley pulp mill, and involved with many of the community groups that formed to stop the mill, including as occasional spokesperson for Friends of the Tamar Valley, and Pulp the Mill.

From 2014 to 2020 I was a volunteer board member of the Tamar Valley Writers Festival and helped organise the highly successful events in 2016 and 2018. Due to Covid the 2020 event was cancelled. I currently volunteer on the boards of the Tasmanian Conservation Trust, and the Tasmanian branch of ABC Friends.
