THE POSITION

Victorian Greens Senator-elect Lidia Thorpe is seeking a passionate and engaged person to join her team in the role of Office Manager, based at her Melbourne office.

The Office Manager ensures the efficient and effective running of the senator’s electorate office, and works closely with staff and volunteers. The Office Manager oversees and reports on the office budgets & Senator’s parliamentary entitlements, coordinates office systems and spaces, and manages the Senator’s diary, travel and correspondence.

This role is a key point of contact for people contacting the senator’s office, working as part of her electorate office team. In this way, the Office Manager helps build engagement between the public and the work of the senator and the senator’s office.

PAY AND CONDITIONS

The position is offered under the Members of Parliament (Staff) Act 1984, and employment conditions are outlined in the Members of Parliament (Staff) Enterprise Agreement 2016-2019. In addition to the salary, employer-sponsored superannuation of 15% is offered.

The position is offered at an Electorate Officer A classification with a salary of $68,482 p.a. plus 15% superannuation. The role attracts an additional Electorate Staff Allowance in the range of $8,058 to $12,087 per annum, in recognition of reasonable additional hours of work and travel outside of business hours.

SELECTION CRITERIA

  1. Ability to work collaboratively in a coordinated way as part of a close team under time constraints, competing priorities and other pressures.

  2. Excellent written and interpersonal communication skills across diverse audiences 

  3. Excellent computer skills in email, online, word processing, and database packages

  4. Experience in team leadership and organisational culture 

  5. Experience in office administration, including managing budgets

  6. Strong organisation, prioritisation and time management skills

  7. Experience working directly with members of the public

  8. Understanding of the context of Aboriginal rights and interests within Australian society and culture 

  9. Ability to work effectively with volunteers and stakeholders 

  10. Understanding of the Australian political system, including topical political issues

  11. Experience working in a political, community or campaigning organisation

  12. Commitment to the Australian Greens’ Principles and Charter
