WHO WE ARE

ANASINA GRAY-BARBERIO is the new Victorian Greens member of the State Parliament’s Legislative Council, representing the Northern Metropolitan region (replacing Samantha Ratnam).

Anasina is a proud Pasefika woman, who is a passionate advocate for diverse communities in the northern suburbs who are being hit particularly hard by the housing, cost of living and climate crises.

Her new office team will support her in this mission!

Anasina is looking to build an enthusiastic, passionate, positive-minded and outcome-focussed team, that reflects the diversity of the Northern Metropolitan community it represents.

THE ROLE: COMMUNICATIONS ADVISOR

  • Work with Anasina to develop and execute her communications strategy, to help her build her audience, engage with her constituents and advocate on important issues to the community.
  • Write copy that engages Anasina’s audiences across multiple channels, including: print, email, website, social media and advertising.
  • Develop Anasina’s social media strategy across key channels, including TikTok, Instagram and YouTube. This includes creating and posting content and doing community management.
  • Run advertising campaigns across Meta and Google advertising channels.
  • Identify and respond to traditional media opportunities, and coordinate with the State Leader’s Office Media Director to pitch stories and engage with media outlets.
  • Develop print materials such as mail, pamphlets, posters outlining Anasina’s work and policies for distribution across her constituency.
  • Work with Anasina’s constituent support and parliament advisors to best communicate Anasina’s community and parliamentary work.
  • Develop analytics reports to evaluate the performance of Anasina’s campaigns and communications against the goals set out in her communications strategy.  

NB: Depending on the skills make-up of Anasina’s staff team, the communications advisor may have an additional role in planning, coordinating and implementing local community issues / statewide policy campaigns (e.g. funding for local schools, community forums etc).

EXPERIENCE

Anasina’s new Communications Advisor will be someone who is a digital native that is across the latest advertising and social media trends, and has a flair for video and loves making content for TikTok and Instagram. You’re also someone who cares about climate action, social justice and equality, and who wants to work in a values based environment. 

Qualifications in communications, plus experience in graphic design or video production (filming and editing) as well as digital advertising will be advantageous. 

Mostly though we are looking for someone passionate about progressive political change and working for Anasina and our movement, which we will prioritise over formal education or qualifications.

SELECTION CRITERIA

Demonstrated:

  1. Values Alignment: a commitment to the Greens policies and core values – ecological sustainability, grassroots participatory democracy, social justice and peace and non-violence.
  2. Experience with developing communications and campaign plans that motivate audiences to take action.
  3. Content generation skills in graphic design or video production, using software like Canva, CapCut and Adobe Suite.
  4. Experience with digital advertising campaigns, using tools like Meta Business Suite or Google Ads.
  5. Copywriting skills across print and digital channels.

Bonus Points for:

  1. An enthusiasm, flexibility and adaptability in professional work and interests beyond communications, such as directly working with diverse peoples and communities for social justice, volunteering etc.

TERMS & SALARY

  1. Part-time to full-time (by negotiation: if working full time some days will likely be paid at casual rates).
  2. Grade 2.1 of Parliament of Victoria’s electorate officer salary scale: $83,469 (pro rata) plus workload allowance of 4%, a capability payment $1170 (if meet annual criteria) and 11.5% superannuation. With previous experience as an electorate officer you may be eligible to be appointed at a higher level up to grade 2.8 $95,432 (pro-rata).
  3. Working from home days and from the Brunswick electorate office, and the Victorian Parliament during sitting weeks.
  4. Family-friendly hours are available, however some out-of-hours work will be required (workload allowance and toil provided).
  5. Electorate Officers are employees of the Victorian Parliament, employed under the terms and conditions of the Parliament, while directly accountable to the Member in whose electorate they are employed.
  6. Please note to accept this role you will be required to provide a Working With Children Check (WWCC), National Police Check (NPC) and participate in a 15-minute confirmation interview with the Department of Parliamentary Services.
