Whip | Sue Pennicuik

Sue Pennicuik has been the parliamentary whip for the Victorian Greens since December 2006.

Parties select one of their MPs to be their whip. Party whips are responsible for preparing lists of speakers for each debate, ensuring that members are present when required and providing advice and support to their colleagues. They negotiate with the whips of other parties on procedural and scheduling matters, including organising the agenda for the parliamentary day and beyond. If a party member requires a leave of absence from the Parliament, the whip will organise a ‘pair’ for their colleague – a member from another party who will not vote in order to cancel out the absence.
