Everyone has a right to education, whether you are leaving school, changing careers, retraining later in life or looking to gain new skills and knowledge.
But successive Labor and Liberal governments have slashed education funding and treated students as customers and education as a business.
West Australian student debt has spiralled and the increasing cost of living is a barrier to higher education and training for the next generation of students. In in 2005-06, the average student student debt was $10,299. In 2016-2017, the average was $18,371.
No one should have to go into a decade of debt just to get an education.
Under the Greens plan, more than 800,000 people will be attending university for free by 2021 - including over 80,000 from Western Australia alone.
