Caroline Perks

#2 Candidate for East Metropolitan Region

Hi I’m Caroline Perks, your #2 Greens candidate for East Metropolitan region in this state election, supporting Tim Clifford MLC for re-election to the state’s upper house - the Legislative Council.

I’m a sustainability and climate change policy expert with ten years’ experience in all three tiers of government and within industry. I work to improve waste management, water conservation, energy efficiency and reduce greenhouse gas emissions through measuring, monitoring and implementing sustainability initiatives. I grew up in the hills of Perth, with Kangaroos in my backyard and Red-Tailed Black Cockatoos in the trees. I was privileged to grow up with access to beautiful bushland and protecting WA’s unique environment is incredibly important to me and is an important issue within this region.

2020 was a difficult year, made more difficult by bad policy decisions made by our governments. For 2021 to be different, we need our governments to not just to protect the health of our communities but their futures as well.

We’ve reached a tipping point. Not only with climate change, but with huge inequalities between the rich and the poor, our First Nations people and between the generations.

We don’t have time to tolerate politicians taking corporate donations from big corporations, so they can keep emitting greenhouse gases and not pay their taxes. We don’t have time for a ‘gas led recovery’ or for state emission targets that don’t immediately reduce emissions. We don’t have time for old growth forests or Koala habitats to be cut down. We don’t have time for rhetoric without action.

Now is our time. Now is the time to reach out to the community with the Green’s suite of compassionate, inclusive, progressive and economically viable policies. Now’s the time for urgent climate action. Now’s the time to raise Newstart, invest in housing, health and mental health. Now’s the time to invest in arts and education.

I strongly urge you to vote for the Greens (WA) ticket for the WA Legislative Council and ensure Tim can continue to fight for solutions to the climate, housing and health crises in our society.
