Steph Amir

”I'm a Preston local with my partner and young daughter, proud of my multicultural heritage. I care about making Darebin as fair and inclusive as it can be and I stand for open and transparent local government.”

Steph is a Preston local, appreciating the multicultural society, diverse range of people, and thriving art scene which contribute to a lively and unique community. She cares about a consultative approach to governance to ensure a sustainable and transparent planning and development process.

Holding bachelor's degrees in science (ecology and zoology) and arts (criminology and sociology), Steph has a wide and varied professional history, including her work in research as both a zoologist and social scientist, in science communication, and most recently in the not-for-profit sector, working with young people to gain transferable skills and lead social change in their communities.

Committed to contributing to social inclusion and promoting the diversity of local communities, Steph has a postgraduate qualification in Social Inclusion and has worked across the private, government and non-profit sectors to support the equal participation of women, people with disabilities and people in the LGBTIQ community. She is currently on the board of a community radio station where she hosts a weekly show, is involved in a community choir, and occasionally writes for community publications.

Steph has chosen to stand with The Greens due to a shared vision of a society that cares about people and the environment. She believes her experience and knowledge will allow her to stand for decisions that have positive impacts for the area and its people, as opposed to individual councillors, developers and corporations.
