ACT Greens condemn attack on leader of Palestinian solidarity movement

Quotes attributable to Andrew Braddock, ACT Greens MLA for Yerrabi:

"Last Sunday, a leader of the Palestinian solidarity movement was attacked from behind in Civic. Fortunately, she is okay but I want to take the opportunity to totally condemn this cowardly attack that appears to have been racially motivated.

"Attacks such as these do not happen in a vacuum. They occur within a community context. Where the actions and more importantly inactions of powerful people, and governments create an authorising environment.

"If leaders and governments fail to condemn international law breaches, war crimes and genocide in Gaza; their very inaction leads to complicity to those human rights violations. As well contributing to an authorising environment within our community for racially motivated attacks to occur.

"That is why it is so important leaders and governments show moral leadership. To not be quietly complicit but to be outspoken for what is right. That is the way we can create a peaceful and inclusive society."
