ACT Greens disappointed at TU closure

2020-02-24

Ahead of its closure this Friday, the ACT Greens say they are disappointed at the Government’s handling of the Tenants Union (TU) tender process.

“The Greens are disappointed in the Government’s decision to “test the market” by opening up the Tenants Union ACT contract to tender and then subsequently awarding the tender to another organisation,” ACT Greens Housing spokesperson Caroline Le Couteur said today.

“The ACT Government still hasn’t given any compelling reason as to why they did this.

We’re disappointed with the process and saddened by the way this has ended.

“We would like to acknowledge the assistance that the TU have provided to thousands of renters over the two decades.

“We understand that the TU will revert to being a volunteer-based organisation.

“Deb Pippin, in particular, has been the constant reassuring face of for tenants for many years, and the ACT Greens would like to join the community in saying a big ‘thank you’ to the TU for their ongoing efforts.”
