BREAKING: Labor admits hundreds of data breaches from MyWay+

2025-04-11

In response to Greens questioning in the ACT Legislative Assembly, the Government has finally admitted at least 358 instances of data being breached through the MyWay+ system, including personal and payment information.

“This is an astounding admission from a Minister who has been telling Canberrans for months that their data is safe,” said ACT Greens transport spokesperson Andrew Braddock MLA.

“It was only two weeks ago that Minister Steel told the MyWay+ Inquiry that the number of data breaches was zero.

“Why has it taken months of a public inquiry and questioning from the crossbench for the Transport Minister to finally come forward with this information?”

Minister Steel told the Legislative Assembly on Thursday that 61 breaches occurred in December and another 297 occurred last month.

The Government will now be writing to affected Canberrans to notify them that their data has been accessed.

“Unfortunately, today’s admission raises yet more questions about the Government’s credibility,” Mr Braddock said.

“Why did the Minister steadfastly deny the breaches in the face of mounting evidence from the community? Why have the logs of the breaches only now come to light almost six months after breaches occurred? Why wasn’t the Government more forthcoming in the Assembly and to the inquiry?

“There has got to be some accountability from the Minister and from the Labor Government for rolling out a flawed MyWay+ system that is continuing to let down members of the Canberra community.”
