Greens respond to Giralang Shop Inquiry Committee Report

2021-12-14

Andrew Braddock MLA, Member for Yerrabi has responded to the interim report into Giralang Shops published today by the Standing Committee on Planning, Transport and City Services.

“I welcome the Committee’s report into the Giralang shops. Canberra is known for its vibrant suburbs, equipped with local shops and venues where the community can gather, socialise and live their daily lives”, said Andrew Braddock MLA, ACT Greens Member for Yerrabi.

“The site has remained vacant for 16 years which is a real loss to the community. I share in the frustration of local residents and the sadness of lost opportunities. The ACT Government needs to intervene to ensure this doesn’t continue to happen and that communities aren’t left deprived of their vibrant centres.

“I’m pleased to see that the Committee’s recommendations are practical steps towards the land being developed and used by the community. I hope the ACT Government and the Developer work swiftly together to make Giralang an even better place to call home.”
