Applications are now open for the Ministerial Advisory Council for Veterans and their Families (MACVF) to advise ACT Government on how to better support Canberra’s veteran community.
Assistant Minister for Seniors, Veterans, Families and Community Services Emma Davidson is encouraging community members to apply for the 2021-23 MACVF and help drive better outcomes for veterans in Canberra.
“Improving outcomes for our community means co-designing and working with the people in them. The MACVF plays an important role connecting the ACT Government to our veteran community so that we can shape initiatives, policies and programs that improve social and health outcomes,” Minister Davidson said.
“Our 2019-21 Council has done an amazing job over their term to support our veterans and their families. A key highlight are their efforts to advocate for a question in the 2021 Census, which will help us better understand the demographics and unique needs of our veteran community. This is the first time the question has ever been included and will provide a rich source of data on veterans in Australia.”
Other key highlights of the previous MACVF include the contribution and progress to the ACT Veterans Employment Strategy, being key advisers on the Veterans Employment Expo in 2019 and more recently providing valuable input into the Terms of Reference for the Royal Commission into Defence and Veteran Suicide.
Applications are open to people who are veterans, widows, partners, former partners, children, parents, siblings and relatives of ex-servicemen and women or anyone with an interest in veterans’ welfare or wellbeing.

“The ACT Veterans community is diverse with serving and former serving members and their families residing in the Canberra region. It’s a privilege to serve the veteran community by being appointed to the ACT Ministerial Advisory Council for Veterans and their Families. I encourage eligible individuals to submit an expression of interest to support our veterans and their families.”
