ACT GREENS REPORT PROGRESS ON PARTY OFFICE APARTHEID FREE ZONE COMMITMENT

2026-10-08

The ACT Greens are providing an update to members and the community on progress toward making the ACT Greens Party Office an Apartheid Free Zone (AFZ), following a resolution of the ACT Greens Management Committee.

The Management Committee committed to implementing key actions to align Party Office operations with the global Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) call.

ACT Greens MLA Andrew Braddock said the work has focused on transparency, practical change, and reducing financial and procurement links where possible.

"This has been a values-driven and practical process. We are working to ensure our party operations reflect our commitment to human rights and international law, while being honest about the limits facing a small political organisation," Mr Braddock said.

The ACT Greens publicly announced the intention to establish the Party Office as an AFZ last year, through communications during the federal election campaign. The ACT Greens Assembly team have been working towards the same goal. A review of companies identified in global BDS calls, as well as other relevant local targets, has been completed by the party.

"Through this review we identified that, via staff travel reimbursements, payments may have been connected to platforms such as Airbnb, Booking.com and TripAdvisor. Where suitable, alternative booking services can be used in future."

An audit of ACT Greens property and equipment has been completed. Where branded equipment is in use, steps have been taken to minimise visible promotion of relevant companies. The party will prioritise responsible reuse and recycling to avoid unnecessary waste, and new procurement guidelines will reflect this work.

The ACT Greens have formally acknowledged past errors and contacted relevant companies about changes to our purchasing approach. This statement forms part of that process, with further communication to follow. Existing equipment may continue to be used where appropriate to avoid waste, while future purchasing decisions shift.

"We are committed to ongoing improvement - aligning our internal practices with our principles, being transparent about constraints, and taking practical steps where we can," Mr Braddock said.
