This announcement serves only to give more uncertainty to CIT staff and students. We welcome the assurance that these redundancies are voluntary, but this still leaves more questions than answers.
Less than two weeks ago during Estimates Hearings, CIT representatives painted a rosy picture of enrolment numbers and assured the Assembly they remained focused on educational outcomes and not executive salaries.
But now staff and students are left wondering what potential redundancies mean for their workplace and education.
The ACT Government has a responsibility to prioritise our educational institutions and the wellbeing of staff and students, but today’s news shows they have a long way to go.

CIT must now sit down with students and staff and be transparent with the public as to what these voluntary redundancies mean for the institution.
The Government must make clear that these redundancies will not mean cut courses or anything else which is detrimental to student or staff experience at CIT. I look forward to using tomorrow's estimates hearings to ask further questions of the Skills Minister.
