Social connection and community support through technology grants

2021-12-16

A new funding round for community organisations to bolster their digital access and literacy opens today to increase flexibility, response, and support for Canberrans.

The Technology Upgrade Fund supports digital inclusion through upgrading IT equipment, improving digital services, delivering online training and other initiatives so more people can engage with services and participate across our community.

Assistant Minister for Seniors, Veterans, Families and Community Services Emma Davidson said the grant supports Canberrans most at risk of digital exclusion, such as people with mental health issues, people with disability, young people, older people, and those from culturally and linguistically diverse communities better access services and support through technology.

“Community organisations play a vital role responding to the needs of Canberrans which is why it is important they have opportunities to grow their digital capabilities and provide more access for the people they support,” Minister Davidson said.

“We have collectively experienced a rapid shift to digital technologies to increase access, support and flexibility for people in need across our community. This funding continues to support the community sector build their capacity and resources so people can seek help and social connection when they need it.”

The grant program, with a total pool of $478,000, was co-designed in consultation with the community to ensure it has a positive impact and promotes equitable digital access across the ACT. It aligns with the ACT Government’s Digital Strategy to support the needs of Canberrans most at risk of digital exclusion by providing technology access and literacy through registered community organisations in the ACT.
