Win for community as Independent Assessments scrapped

2021-07-09

Minister for Disability Emma Davidson said that Independent Assessments have been scrapped following the Disability Reform Ministers Meeting today, calling it a massive win for the community who has been advocating for months against this reform.

“This is a massive win for the sector and it is clear that the voices of people with disability were heard loud and clear in today’s meeting,” Minister Davidson said.

“We look forward to co-designing a new model with the community towards a more equitable scheme.

“The mood in the meeting leaned towards a person-centred approach, which the community has been advocating for, since the first trial of Independent Assessments. The time has come for genuine community co-design.

“I look forward to the official communique being released with more detail.”
