The NT Greens are proud to commit to NT Landcare's ask of $2 million over five years to support their vital work.
Appropriate funding for community and First Nations led biodiversity conservation is party of our election platform in the Healthy Country, Thriving Nature piece.
First Nations ranger groups and community groups like Landcare play a vital role in protecting and restoring local ecosystems across the NT. These organisations do incredible work often on a shoestring budget. This work has practical conservation outcomes, enables sharing and building environmental knowledge at a local level and builds upon thousands of years of First Nations land management knowledge
We're also proud to support our Indigenous Ranger groups who do essential work across the Territory looking after Country and Culture.
The NT Ranger grants program needs renewal of its funding to be able to plan for the future and to continue to grow.
At this NT election, we’re committing to $15 million in funding over 4 years, with year-on-year increases to keep up with rising costs, plus a $5 million capital fund to help Indigenous Ranger groups in the Territory invest in equipment, construction and other big expenses that help them to work even more effectively. We challenge other parties and candidates to match this commitment of funding.
Suki Dorras-Walker - candidate for Fannie Bay said:
"I've been out with the local Ludmilla landcare group, as well as friends of East Point Reserve, and seen first hand the incredible work they do on a shoestring budget. We know that the return on Investment for community landcare is 7:1. It's also a great way to remind people that we are all stewards of our nature. That's why we're committing to $2million over 5 years for Landcare to help them train new volunteers, lead community building initiatives and deliver local environmental projects."
"We're also proud to support our Indigenous Ranger groups working across the Territory, looking after Country and Culture. Rangers are doing the essential work that nature needs, reducing the harms done by fire, invasive species and weeds."
