Greens call for rehabilitation of Boulter Rd crime scene

The Greens have reacted against rezoning of illegally cleared land in the headwaters of Rapid Creek.

Mr Matt Haubrick, Greens candidate for Nightcliff, says the site is an environmental crime scene, that should be rehabilitated for the benefit of the creek.

"This is another example of rogue planning decisions made in the dying hours of a failed government," said Mr Haubrick.

"The owner of this illegally cleared land should have been prosecuted for their crime, and the land rehabilitated."

"Instead, they were let off the hook - and now they've actually been rewarded with rezoning that will allow high density construction at the crime scene."

"This would exacerbate the flood risk that has jeopardised the values of the creek - and the value of surrounding homes downstream."

"The Greens want this rezoning overturned, to facilitate revegetation designed to maximise the land's value as a wetland sink that can best contribute to flood mitigation."
