Less Pokies and more live music

2016-08-22

The NT Greens have promised to lessen the number of pokies in the Territory and commit to funding live music in pubs and clubs across the Territory.

Matt Haubrick, candidate for Nightcliff, said: “Everyone can see the damagepokies do to our community, but a lot of small business people rely on them to keep their livelihoods afloat."

"The NT Greens will fund pubs and clubs to provide a space for regular live music and comedy that will bring more punters through the doors for the right reasons."

"We can support musicians, artists, and business owners while curbing problem gambling all at the same time."

"I’ve been a part of the music scene in Darwin for years and I’ve seen the incredible talent we have to offer."

"I’ve also been a social worker in Darwin for years and have seen first hand the damage pokies do to our community. Nobody wants them, but the gambling industry has misled businesses into accepting them, and our pollies are too afraid to stand up to the industry.”
