More Labor Scandals

2024-02-13

Key points:

The NT community expected the NT Labor government to learn their lesson with the resignation of their scandal-ridden Chief Minister in December last year.

Today’s revelations that an NT government Minister was investing his money into a company responsible for supplying alcohol in Central Australia goes to the heart of NT Labor’s integrity issues.

This was further demonstrated last week with Labor’s disclosure of political donations for the last quarter. Among the list of donors were property developers, mining companies and fracking giants. How can we trust our government representatives to make decisions for the community when they're financially tied to these corporations?

Quotes attributable to NT Greens Spokesperson- Party Manager Sib Hare Breidahl:

“If the Deputy Chief Minister is correct that “all rules have been followed”, then it is clear to every Territorian that our rules are woefully inadequate.”

“It is obvious Labor ministers don’t care about Territory communities and are only in it to make a quick buck. This is another disappointing abuse of office and doesn’t pass the pub test.”

“The NT Greens support a review to strengthen the Ministerial Code of Conduct and the Legislative Assembly Disclosure of Interests Act. The NT Greens are calling for urgent reform to end donations from corporations looking to buy influence.”

“This latest scandal runs deeper than any individual representative. There is a systemic absence of integrity in both old parties in the NT.”
